Your Home In the Woods

The Log House Homestead is built and decorated to reflect a house that would have belonged to an established tradesman in the 1800s. It is a ten year dream and work of your hosts. Different species of native woods are used throughout this structure. All windows and door trims are cherry. The exterior/interior board and batten doors are walnut. Wallboards and staircases are white oak, red oak, beech, hickory, cherry and maple. Floors and window sashes are white pine.
This two-story hand hewn log house is your domain. It is not listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It’s new but authentically constructed the "old way". Old it seems because of the hand-made tin wall scones and the iron door thumblatches and straps. The wide pine
floorboards are held down with cut nails. The massive wall logs are all cut, hewned and notched from trees in the nearby woods.

Within in the house...
On main level is the "great room", a living, dining, study area with a large stone-faced fireplace. Period furniture and textiles are used through this house, giving you a feel of life 175 years ago.

The two bedchambers and "necessary room" (a half bath) are upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen sized cherry poster bed. A double cannon ball bed and antique three-quarters bed are in the other bedchamber.

A descent to the "root cellar" reveals delightful modern amenities. The kitchenette has a microwave and undercounter refrigerator. The full deluxe bath is tailored to our visitors of this century. It features shower, tiled floor, and recessed lighting accenting seasonal greenery and plants.
